Dave was born in Wisconsin and his family transplanted to the San Francisco Bay Area when he was seven. His father had an eye for modern architecture, which landed the family in several mid-century masterpieces. The most famous of these was an Eichler home in Walnut Creek, California, with the iconic flat roof and glass walls.

Dave followed his passion for music and earned a degree in sound engineering and also spent a decade touring around the world, playing the drums in the indie bands LoveLikeFire and Silver Swans.

In between tours, Dave and his musical cohort, Dan Awand, worked for a general contractor and developed skills in carpentry, tiling, plumbing, and electrical work. They developed a love for designing and building, and decided to form their own boutique company, D&D Builders.

Having grown up around a modern aesthetic, a hobby that came quite naturally to Dave was restoring mid-century modern furniture. He was fascinated by the quality and workmanship of the furniture made in that era–particularly by the Danish–and became inspired to learn the process of making his own versions of these classics.

Seeking someone with expertise and experience, he started learning from a master cabinetmaker.  Since then, Dave has spent the past few of years honing his mill-working and joinery skills by building custom cabinetry, furniture and various other articles for the house and home.

Dave recently relocated from the Mission District of San Francisco to Bowling Green Kentucky, and spends his days off playing fetch with his Boston Terrier, recording bands and shooting  photos, mostly on film.
